Traditional direct-to-card printing (DTC) applies ink directly to the surface of the PVC card. While cost-effective for simple applications, the printed image is vulnerable to surface wear, and the printer cannot reach the absolute edge of the card, leaving a thin white border.
Retransfer printing works by first printing the high-resolution image onto a clear 'retransfer' film, which is then thermally bonded to the surface of the card. This process encapsulates the print behind a protective layer, creating a card that is significantly more durable and resistant to abrasion and chemical exposure.
